This place has a big reputation as one of the best restaurants in eastern Jeju.
I had been wanting to come here for the longest time.
I was seriously so curious.
Honestly, Gogi Gubneun Haenyeo Gujwa Black Pork
is one of those places that always comes up when people search for where to eat on the east side of Jeju.
Once I finally went myself, I totally understood why people call it one of the best spots near Gimnyeong.
It made perfect sense.
If you’re specifically hoping for an ocean view, this isn’t that kind of place,
but instead you get Jeju’s signature stone walls and peaceful natural scenery
with open field views that feel surprisingly healing.

The quality of the fresh pork
even before I walked inside,
there were certificates posted outside, including Ieodo Pork, showing just how seriously they take fresh Jeju black pork.
On top of that, they age the meat for 240 hours,so of course my expectations shot way up.

Dining room size
The restaurant itself isn’t huge.
There are about 8 to 9 tables that seat four people each.
Still, if you’re visiting with family or a small group,
I thought it was a great place to sit down for a proper meal.
But the wait? Be ready for it.
I personally waited around 30 to 40 minutes before getting in.
Part of that is because the space is fairly small,
but also because the food is so well-known. The second I stepped inside, I could hear warm Jeju dialect from local diners,
and I also saw plenty of travelers eating, chatting, and taking photos.
Even from that alone, you could tell this is a real Jeju black pork favorite and a genuine local restaurant, not just a tourist stop.
What surprised me even more was this: the owner has apparently spent the last four years simply grilling great meat without relying on viral marketing, which honestly made the place even more impressive.
Side dishes made with real care
Like any great eastern Jeju restaurant, none of the banchan here felt like an afterthought.
The wrap vegetables were especially fresh.

The naengmyeon kimchi, ssamjang, and pickled bracken are all made in-house, and they even bring in meljeot, Jeju’s fermented anchovy sauce, directly from Chuja Island.

Since I love writing about food
and the side dishes looked so bright and tasted so good, I asked about them,
and the owner explained everything so kindly, without even a hint of annoyance.
That was one of the reasons this Gujwa restaurant instantly felt like a place I’d want to come back to.

Even better, if you run out of side dishes, you can grab more yourself from the fridge, which was incredibly convenient.

Set C
Black pork belly + black pork neck + special cut + doenjang jjigae
There were three of us, and after a little debate, we ordered Set C.

The meat looked different right away in the best possible way.
The marbling was gorgeous, and the color of the pork was honestly beautiful.
I came starving, so seeing that 240-hour aged pork right in front of me had me instantly drooling.
Pork grilled over charcoal with a smoky finish
I think this place became famous as a black pork restaurant not just because of the meat quality, but because of how they grill it.

Once you order, they bring charcoal to a cute brazier that looks like a mini cauldron.
Between the crackling sound of the charcoal and that adorable pot-style grill, it all fit the restaurant’s vibe perfectly.

And while you’re admiring it,
the staff are already carefully grilling the pork over the charcoal until it turns beautifully golden, almost like it’s being lightly smoked.
It didn’t cook as fast as at a typical Korean barbecue place,
but that slower pace meant the meat came out with that perfect crisp-outside, juicy-inside texture. The marbling was excellent, but it wasn’t overly fatty, so the chewy, satisfying texture really lingered. That stood out to me.

It’s already a lot of work for staff to grill this carefully table-side, but they did it with so much attention and skill that I just kept thinking how good it was going to be.
The sea urchin set that seafood lovers have to order
When we were looking at the menu with our meat order, the sea urchin set caught our eye.
My boyfriend loves seafood, so there was no way we were skipping it.

While the pork was still grilling, a whole extra spread suddenly arrived at the table, which honestly surprised me.
The presentation alone was stunning.I was already impressed,
and then I realized this was the sea urchin set.

It came with fresh sea urchin, house-made rice, hijiki rice, and seaweed,
plus wasabi, so the whole setup felt really generous.

If you wrap the hijiki rice in seaweed with sea urchin and a little wasabi,
it’s the kind of combination that completely steals the show with rice.
Personally, I’m not a huge seafood person, so it wasn’t really for me.
But the rice itself was genuinely delicious.

You can’t skip the side dishes either
especially the limited abalone steamed egg, which only comes out in small quantities each day.
At most Korean barbecue places, steamed egg tends to be puffed up and a little scorched on top, but here, probably because of the abalone, the top had just a light seasoning
while underneath it was more like Japanese chawanmushi, silky, delicate, and really easy to eat.

It does take a little time to prepare, so if you’re dining with kids, I’d recommend ordering it early.
The doenjang jjigae included in the set
deserves a mention too.
Inside that bubbling pot of stew,
there was plenty of seafood and all the usual doenjang jjigae ingredients,
and from the first spoonful, the broth tasted gently sweet with a mellow soybean paste flavor that lingered nicely.

At a Jeju black pork restaurant, naengmyeon is basically a must.
Meat and naengmyeon just belong together, right?
We ordered the bibim naengmyeon, and my first thought after one bite was
that it might taste a little mild if you usually prefer strongly seasoned food.

But once I ate it with the pork, ssamjang, or meljeot,
the balance clicked into place perfectly.
It was so well matched that I honestly wondered if the owner had designed it that way on purpose.

They really don’t miss the details here.
After actually eating here, I completely understood why this place is known as one of the best restaurants in eastern Jeju.
The hype made sense.
You get the natural scenery that’s so distinctive to eastern Jeju,
plus Jeju black pork grilled slowly and carefully over charcoal,
and house-made side dishes that tie everything together.
Each table even has its own phone charger, which was such a nice convenience.
They also sell Dippin’ Dots-style bead ice cream for dessert,
which adds a fun little nostalgic touch.
If you ever want a break from ocean views
and feel like doing a food stop in Gujwa,
this is absolutely a place I’d recommend near Gimnyeong.
Gogi Gubneun Haenyeo Gujwa Black Pork
is somewhere I’m already planning to revisit soon.
So if you’re looking for a great restaurant in Jeju, definitely put this one on your list.
